It is easy to loose track of how many devices we have turned on, how long has a light fixture been on, or how much unnecessary electricity we are using in general.
Most of the times it is really just about paying a little more attention to our surrounding to actually make a dent in our electric bill. I actually made those changes myself and monitored the energy consumption over 5 weeks and I have noticed it dropped the bill by about 10% around March (the heating was still running). The results for each of us may vary depending on the age and conditions of the fixtures and appliances that are drawing power at any given time.\

1.Turn off any light you don’t need at that moment.

2.Set your monitors to go to sleep within 5 mins of you leaving your keyboard (just the monitor, not the CPU).

3.Select cold water for your washer cycle.

4.Run the dryer on low temperature for a little longer.

5.Don’t use hot water if you don’t have to, and if you do make it as short as possible (includes trying to make showers more efficient).

Even if you decide to just do part of those suggestions you might still see a difference in your bill over time. If nothing else, saving energy and being more mindful in our home can help us living more sustainable. If you are looking for more ways to be sustainable take a look at this blog post.
