One of the most important rooms in a home is the kitchen, and when buying a new home it should be the one we are the most picky about. Some kitchen features might look great and be quite inefficient space-wise at the same time. Especially if you really enjoy cooking and own all sorts of gadgets to make your activity easier, it is really important you make the right kitchen choice. The kitchen is typically the most expensive room to renovate, and that is why most of my home buying decision is driven by its kitchen design. I will share with you a few things to avoid or look for that I learned in my field and from personal experience.
· Try to find a home with full overlay and avoid inset cabinets’ doors. Full overlay is the most space efficient and it is also a lot more refacing friendly making the kitchen more future proof.
· Make sure there are pull outs at least in the blind corner cabinets. It is true that pull-outs don't use the entirety of the space, and at the same time, because they are easier to access, even the space in the back will be functional and completely usable.
· Look for a kitchen with tall cabinets or a pantry. Even if the layout has a lot of wall storage, and especially if the wall cabinets are taller than 36 inches, consider the fact that the space at the top of the cabinet will be hard to reach and not really a spot to use for kitchen ware you use everyday. Tall cabinets and pantries are usually very accessible and easy to use and provide a great amount of space.
· Consider how many appliances you intend to keep on the counters and make sure there is plenty space left for all your cooking needs.
· Make sure there is a good amount of space in each side of the stove, I know I use this space a lot more than any other when I cook.
